International women’s day and Harmony Day – 21 March 2021

Multicultural Association of Canberra and Gopio celebrated Harmony day and Int women’s day on 21 March 2021

Workshop on COVID 19 vaccination efficacy and mental health for Snr Citizens

A houseful event by the Multicultural Association of Canberra and a Global Organization for people of Indian origin on Covid Vaccine efficacy and mental health. A very interactive and informative session by Dr. Paresh Dawda. We thank him for his time and for taking up all Q&A.

Thank you Sam Wong for sharing useful information from the TGA perspective. Thank you, Karina Louise and Waisiu from Woden Community services for giving us useful tips on self-care. We also had visitors from unhomogenized milk companies Mr. Shah and Chandan Ji who have launched new milk and shared with us the benefits of it. Thank you Labor Club for the venue and yummy food. Thanking all committee members for coming along with Brinda and being a part of MC. Thanking Mr. Krishna Hamal from Nepalese community, Savi from Srilankan community and Sam from the Chinese community for sharing views of Covid vaccine efficacy from your community perspective. Social meet and greet at Forde Community

The senior group met at Forde Community Centre on Feb 11th 2021, for a social meet and greet. This was followed by light exercises and bowling. Thanks Bharat International for preparing yummy lunch. Seniors who could not get to the venue were picked up by MCCI transport. Thanks MCCI for your collaboration with MAC and GOPIO and together we can achieve good outcomes for our community.

Donations

Continuing with MAC and GOPIO mission of serving the disadvantaged communities, we are donating non-perishables each fortnight to Blue Door men’s shelter like clothing, toiletries, blankets, etc. If interested to contribute, please email Presidentmac.canberra@gmail.com. Our next project for Blue Door shelter is to cook nutritious curries each fortnight at their commercial kitchen in Ainslie. First cooking day is 28 Feb at 12 pm. Volunteers are welcome to join in to cook with us. Ingredients will be provided by MAC and friends.

Launch of MAC

MAC was launched to the community on 20th December 2020 as we collaborated with GOPIO to deliver a workshop on mental health awareness. This event was held on 20th December 2020 and included a meet and greet, address by the president of MAC Nishi Puri and Counsellor of High Commission of India Mr. Rana. MLA Nicole Lawder joined in later as she had another appointment. It was the first event of MAC in collaboration with GOPIO post-Covid and it was overwhelming to see such a huge attendance. It was a great opportunity for the community to interact with each other and also participate in the mental Health workshop conducted by Dr. Deepa Shingal. People shared their stories of how they survived the Covid lockdown days.MAC invites all communities in Canberra to join in their events and fundraising projects

Workshop for Senior Citizens

On 15th Jan 2021, MAC organized a seniors workshop in collaboration with GOPIO.  This event was held in Palmerston community center and the speakers were Jen and Katrina from MCCI. Seniors were informed about social groups, discounted domestic help, taxi vouchers, and meals on wheels(catered for their needs) by MCCI. It was a very informative session, and very soon the social group will be formed for our seniors to interact and meet at least once a week.

MAC Inaugural at Legislative Assembly

Multicultural Association of Canberra was launched at the Legislative Assembly on Feb 8th 2021. Truly humbled to get support from local community and the legislators. Our multicultural committee has representatives from not only a Indian but Bangladesh, Nepal, Africa, and Srilankan Association. Many thanks to CMCF Advisor Sam Wong and Zakia Patel, President multicultural hub for extending your support to MAC. Collaboration is the key, thanks Trinny and Jen from MCCI for joining in. Thank you to HE high commissioner of India Mr Gitesh Sarmaji, counsellor Ranaji and Jyotiji for your kind participation. Many many thanks to all the politicians that joined in the inaugural Thank you opposition leader Ms Lee, Multicultural minister Ms Tara Cheyne, Speaker Joy Burch Dep, opp leader Giulia Jones MLA Susan Orr, MLA Elizabeth Kikkert, MLA Mark Parton, MLA Andrew Braddock for your participation. Thanks to all community leaders and all dear friends who were able to attend and make it special for us. Due to covid restrictions we were not able to invite everyone Our heartfelt thanks to MLA Nicole Lawder for helping us organize this event at the assembly.
