13 October 2026 | Belconnen Labor Club
Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services (MARSS), in collaboration with the Multicultural Association of Canberra (MAC) and the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO), organised an informative and interactive health workshop dedicated to supporting our multicultural seniors.
The event brought together seniors from diverse cultural backgrounds, providing an opportunity to share experiences, raise concerns and gain valuable information from support organisations, including Dementia ACT, Carers ACT and other service providers.
We were honoured by the presence of Minister Caitlin Tough, Andrew Braddock MLA, Chiaka Barry MLA and Peter Cain MLA, who shared their perspectives on improving aged care and support for older Australians.
The day also celebrated cultural diversity and wellbeing, featuring a vibrant Pacific Islander dance performance and an engaging Chair Zumba session facilitated by Krisha Jilson. Guests also enjoyed a delicious two-course lunch and informative resources, including 2027 seniors’ diaries provided by Legal Aid.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation to:
- MARSS Board Chair Nic Manikis PSM, the CEO, CFO and Board Members for their leadership and support.
- All presenters and participating organisations for sharing their valuable knowledge and expertise.
- Radio Manpasand and RJ Manish for media coverage, interviews and capturing the event highlights.
- Nadine and the Belconnen Labor Club team for their wonderful hospitality.
- Udaya and Owen for photography and audio support.
- Shoba for organising the information goodie bags.
- All MAC and GOPIO committee members and volunteers for their dedication and hard work.
The positive participation and feedback from attendees made the event a great success. Together, we remain committed to building a more informed, inclusive and supportive community where our multicultural seniors feel valued, respected and heard.
