Aged Care Explained: Empowering Our Community

MAC and GOPIO recently hosted an informative and interactive aged care workshop at the Burns Club, Kambah, to help community members better understand the aged care system and available support.

Our sincere thanks to Veronica Bui, Social Worker at Canberra Hospital, who explained the process of accessing residential aged care, the role of Services Australia, and the costs of respite and residential care.

Dr Kris Boyapati provided valuable insights into aged care fees and charges, explaining the financial arrangements for full pensioners, part-pensioners and self-funded retirees.

The session encouraged lively discussions, with attendees gaining practical knowledge and receiving helpful information booklets and PowerPoint resources.

With significant aged care funding changes introduced from 1 January 2025, staying informed is more important than ever. Attendees were encouraged to contact ADACAS for independent information and advocacy support.

MAC and GOPIO thank our facilitators and all participants for making this workshop a success. Together, we continue to empower our community through education, awareness and support.
